It’s Tuesday so my fourth awareness mani is another for Wave of Polish, in aid of pregnancy and infant loss awareness.
Last Wednesday was the official Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day and Instagram was awash with pink and blue manis. It’s moments like those that make me proud to be part of the nail art community for always being ready to support a cause and those it affects.
There is an Instagram account called @babylossquotes121 which exists to try and break down barriers by helping people to understand those dealing with this kind of grief. I was struck by one post in particular:
Another cause close to my heart is mental health awareness, and this picture made me realise how closely connected these two things are. I read somewhere that we shouldn’t ask “what is wrong with you?” but instead “what happened to you?”. Worse still is not to ask at all.
Grief may not be a mental illness, but it is closeted and silenced in much the same way. Grieving mothers have been told “it’s okay, you can try again” while sufferers of depression are told to “cheer up”.
It’s awful to see our loved ones in pain and easy to walk on eggshells in fear of saying the wrong thing, but in many cases it’s not talking that is the wrong thing.

For this dotticure, I started with two coats of Nails Inc Bloomsbury Way. Once dry I added dots of varying sizes using Essie Style Cartel, OPI Dating a Royal, Models Own Hypergel Blue Glint, Nails Inc St James Square, Essie Mint Candy Apple and Models Own Hypergel White Light.
I finished with a coat of Models Own Matte Topcoat.
